Children & Adolescent Programs

SunBeams was specifically designed to meet the needs of children ages 3 & 4 and their parents. In order to address the need for more hands-on materials and interaction between children, adults, volunteers, and parents, there are many more personal activities built into this level of the curriculum. 12 weekly meetings ending with a special Celebrate Me Day. Ideal for day care centers, pre-schools, extended care programs, and community organizations.

"Before RAINBOWS, the only one who listened to me was my teddy
bear."
-- Girl, 6 years old
Did you know children grieve as much as their parents, but because of
their age, they have a much harder time expressing their feelings?
RAINBOWS offers grieving children
the opportunity to heal.

"This support group helped me go through the stages that kids
go through when there is a death or divorce in their family. Its
a place where I can tell people how I feel and not have them laugh at
me. I also trust them very much…"
-- A sophomore boy in the Spectrum program
Spectrum provides teens the opportunity to express feelings and thoughts
about their loss - positive and negative - with their peers.
Through Spectrum, teens will...
- put their feelings into words
- work through their grief
- build a stronger sense of self-esteem
- begin to accept the changes that have taken place.

The Alumni Edition is specifically designed for children ages 4-14 who have completed at least 2 Rainbows program cycles. These youngsters have experssed the need to continue the bond of relationships, and the forum to talk through ongoing issues in their families, but no longer need the structure of the weekly format. Program can be offered simultaneously as regular Rainbows groups are scheduled, or as needed throughout the year. Four age-specific journal levels: ages 4-6, ages 7-8, ages 9-11, and ages 12 and up.
Adult Programs

"I was afraid to go back into what happened to my family as
a child, but I feel better now that I did. I was amazed at how much hurt
I carried around with me all these years."
Kaleidoscope is an opportunity for adults to...
- Explore the impact of their loss on their lives.
- Resolve their grief and get on with the business of life.

"Prism was the most healing support group I have ever been a
part of. It helped met to get in touch with my feelings about the loss of
my spouse. Prism helped me define my childrens needs."
Prism is designed to have parents and stepparents take an honest look at
the person they are today and the parent they are to their children. Parents
have the greatest of all gifts ... their children. The lifelong commitment
to be parents is hard, exhilarating work. Parents shape humanity, and its
future depends on the parents of today.

Silver Linings Community Crisis Response Program is designed to meet the needs of children and families in the aftermath of a community crisis, weather-related disaster, in classroom and community centers in areas of civil unrest and violence, or to assist counselors and parents when called upon to provide support for children of deployed military parents. This self-contained curriculum is available in three levels, ages 5-8, ages 9-13, and adolescents.
